Oftentimes simple is better. That is something to take to heart, or mind, when going about our day. We put so much pressure on ourselves for perfection. I once heard a saying that I remind myself often: Perfection is the enemy of good. Why does it matter if my sketching line is straight or not? Why can’t things be out of proportion, out of perfection or just plain odd? The more we try to box ourselves in, color between the lines, so to speak, the less free we are. Why do I have to draw the perfect picture or create the perfect sentence? Isn’t it in our weakness that we are strong? Isn’t it in our mistakes where we find truth? Yes, I said it. Truth. About ourselves. About others.
I am currently taking a class online from a person (I’ll share their site with you soon) who understands that mistakes are what make us human. Yes, it’s a course about sketching. But, to me, it is so much more than that.
It’s about freedom. About non-judgement. I believe that in our current political climate, it is something we all need to reflect on.
