Liam cued up the file on the thumb drive and studied the connections. Tragedy spanned generations, and Colvin was looking for revenge. He closed the thumb drive and put it in his pocket. As he was walking back to his office, his cell phone rang.
“Hello, Special Agent Doyle.”
“Who is this?” Liam questioned as he opened the app MYCELLSPY, which allowed law enforcement to trace and track a mobile phone using the IP address.
“Sorry to hear about the accident of one of your agents. Why did you go to my Mama’s house, Liam?”
“You know why. You made a mistake.”
“Tell me my mistake, Liam.”
Liam probed to get more information. “Either you or Clay.”
Colvin quipped, “Oh, you know about Clay. I’m impressed, Liam.”
“Either you or Clay caused the blackout. We traced the IP address to the building destroyed in the fire.”
“Go on,” Colvin taunted.
“That was not your mistake. We were able to contact the landlord of that building. We traced your call to the landlord back to your mother’s house.” Liam goaded, “That was your mistake.”
Colvin said sarcastically, “My, my Liam, I’m impressed.”
“Colvin, I know about your brother Asher and the NMC mine. I also know about your grandfather Patrick and the Buffalo Creek Disaster in Logan County. Both of those incidents relate to the Wingate family.”
Colvin seethed and shouted into the phone, “You don’t know my pain! You don’t know my family’s pain! You don’t know what we have been through. You don’t know what this community has been through. I am going to make Wingate pay. There is a whole shitload of pain that’s going to happen, Liam, and there is nothing you can do to stop it.”
“Colvin? Colvin?” The phone went dead.
Aaron was nearby and listening. “Did you get it?”
Liam opened the app and pressed trace. A flash appeared on a map location. “It’s southwest of Naoma. We have to get down there now.”
